WHY 4S? - THE MISSION
The 4S Community was formed by and for automotive industry professionals to make mobility Safe, Secure, Seamless, & Sustainable.
By prioritizing outcome-defined mobility that focuses technology on benefiting individuals and society, rather than tech for tech's sake, industry professionals drive positive 4S change across the mobility industry.

1 / Why does the Mobility sector need 4S?
Studies show that when people are able to move from A to B safely, securely, sustainably and seamlessly, they live better lives. Access to mobility directly impacts your ability to receive a good education, access good healthcare, earn a good wage and protect your mental wellbeing.
Despite the importance of mobility, we do not have a common, clear and objective definition of what great mobility outcomes look like. Without such a definition, organisations are easily distracted by technological hype cycles, and invest in solutions that often fail to improve either consumer or commercial outcomes.
2 / What is 4S supposed to achieve?
4S aims to accelerate the journey towards Safe, Secure, Sustainable and Seamless mobility by putting humanity back in the centre of decision-making within the mobility sector. 4S is about clarifying what outcomes we need to prioritise as an industry, and bringing together like-minded people to tackle common barriers that stand in our way.
3 / Who is leading the 4S initiative?
Most organisations in the mobility sector include some variation of delivering Safe, Secure, Sustainable and Seamless experiences within their Vision statements. The effort to create a common and detailed definition of what each of those words means in practice was kicked off by SBD Automotive in 2023.
Building an industry-wide movement isn’t easy, and is rarely something a single company can achieve. Recognising this, SBD Automotive began engaging with clients and partners across the industry to develop an open community of like-minded organisations and individuals.
With the support of our clients and partners, our goal is to launch a 4S Foundation that accelerates our journey towards Safe, Secure, Sustainable and Seamless mobility.
4 / How is 4S funded?
4S is currently being seed-funded with support from early partners and sponsors. In the near-future a new 4S Foundation will be launched with funding from a broader set of mobility stakeholders. If you would like to find out more, please contact us.
